In addition to being a music venue, the Mildred Owen Concert Hall also displays art throughout the year.
Our current show is as follows:
Andrew Leone
Andrew Leone is a painter, printmaker, and mixed media artist, and teacher who resides in Pacifica, California where he was the founding director of the Sanchez Art Center. He also designed the award-winning, 80-foot long mural that heralds the Art Center’s mission, “Building Community Through Art”; and spearheaded many enduring art events and exhibitions including Arts on Fire, a renowned regional arts competition and annual cultural event.
Andrew exhibits his paintings, monoprints and mixed media pieces throughout the Bay Area, California and Canada and has created many public and private art commissions. He has taught art at San Jose State University, San Francisco State University, The Academy of Art College in San Francisco, and is currently painting and drawing professor at City College of San Francisco. In 1998, the Pacifica Cultural Arts Commission awarded him a Lifetime Achievement Award in the Arts. Andrew has a painting and printmaking studio at the Sanchez Art Center.
Andrew presents Opera Meccanica, his new exhibit of paintings at the Mildred Owen Concert Hall. The title means Mechanical Opera in Italian. Andrew, who grew up in a large Italian American family that was involved in musical theater, treats each canvas like a scene or stage-set from a vast, dream-like opera, inhabited by mechanical objects, plants and creatures. Opera Meccanica is about the realization that things in this physical world appear mechanistic, yet are animated by an undeniable mystery.
“This exhibit is dedicated to the memory of David Ilvedson, friend and supporter of the arts in our community.” - Andrew Leone, July 20, 2010
