Wesla Whitfield is a remarkable singer, with a deep love for that rich storehouse of musical treasures often identified as The Great American Popular Songbook.
She has been developing her skills and learning her demanding craft for a many years, and her performances reflect her great understanding of the material she sings. Her sound and approach would seem to place her somewhere in the intriguing area that borders on both jazz and that aspect of pop music which draws its material largely from the great standards and neglected gems of such as Cole Porter and Irving Berlin and Rodgers and Hart. She has the ability to involve and excite her audience and her successful concerts, from Carnegie Hall to the White House (invited by Hillary Clinton) prove it. Once again Wesla and her brilliant pianist/husband Mike Greensill will grace our stage. If you've seen them before, no doubt you'll come again and if you have never yet seen them, don't miss it!

Swing - Dance!

George Cole's superbly crafted and melodically sophisticated original music reminds us of the best of George Gershwin, Johnny Mercer and Cole Porter. His approach to guitar sounds like a cross between Django Reinhardt and vintage Les Paul. His crooning vocals evokes the same emotion as an early Frank Sinatra or Harry Connick Jr. His songs have a Jazz Age, Swing Era, and Gypsy Jazz rhythm that will make you want to move your feet and get up and dance!

"A scintillating blend of the euberant styling of Django Reinhardt's gypsy jazz and the craft of the Great American Songbook. An elegant, entertaining and whimsical show that is perfect for audiences of all aes, and fans of the classic songs and gypsy jazz both old and new." Daniel Swan (Swan Entertainment)

Jeremy Cohen's Violinjazz Band - Saturday, July 24, 2010, 7:30

ViolinJazz

Jeremy Cohen's Violinjazz Band has released a new CD entitled "The Music Of Eddie South"
This new CD pays homage to the "Dark Angel of the Violin"  Eddie South, who's name and music aren’t known to all violin-loving musicians, historians, and seasoned music buffs. South would have been poised to be one of the great classical violinists of his time had it not been for the dreadful inequality apparent during the 1930s-1950s. Jeremy Cohen's Violinjazz breathes new life into Eddie South’s works, by both paying homage to South’s solo styles as well as adding their own improvisations. The group consists of master violinist Jeremy Cohen (founder of the group and 1st violin of the GRAMMY® nominated ensemble Quartet San Francisco), Pacifica's own, and arranger for the group Larry Dunlap, Jim Kerwin of the David Grisman Quintet on bass (also a Pacifica resident), and Dix Bruce on guitar, who beyond being a well know performer has had over 35 instructional books published by Mel Bay Publications.

Violinist composer and arranger Jeremy Cohen is a native of the San Francisco Bay Area, completed violin studies Anne Crowden and Itzhak Perlman. Active as both a jazz and classical Violinist, Cohen has served on the faculties of the Stanford Jazz Workshop, The Jazz School in Berkeley CA and the Henry Mancini Institute in Los Angeles.

With extensive experience playing, Jazz, Tango Classical, Country, Blues Rock and Funk, Cohen founded Quartet San Francisco in 2001 and has received three Grammy nominations in the "Best Classical Crossover Album" category (2006, 2007 and 2009).

Join Jeremy Cohen and the band to pay tribute to one of the great Classical/ Romantic and Jazzy violinists of all time, Eddie South.

Windy Hill is an energetic band that shows sincere enthusiasm for traditional, authentic bluegrass music. Rarely does one find such a group of talented young musicians that genuinely captures the essence and true grit of this unique music. You'll be taken in by their excitement for bluegrass and the fun that they have with it; the band coined a popular phrase within the California bluegrass scene that truly expresses the band’s nature: “Hammer Down and Keep It Nailed”! Don't miss 'em!

Ryan Breen (banjo) and Henry Warde (mandolin) formed Windy Hill in Fort Collins, CO in the fall of 2008, where they began learning and leaning towards bluegrass’ traditional side. Ryan and Henry have since moved home to their California roots in the San Francisco Bay Area, acquiring another long-time friend – Kyle McCabe (bass) – upon their return and eventually reforming Windy Hill.

Yoseff Tucker (guitar) joined Windy Hill in May of 2010. The boys had been looking for the right guitar player for the “hoss unit”, and after meeting Yoseff and playing with him for the first time, they all knew he was a perfect fit.
